A day in my life at Basecamp by Xior Lyngby

My name is Federico and I usually kick off the day with a protein shake in the common kitchen – quick, easy, and gives me that superhero energy. Depending on the mood (and the weather :-), I’ll either hop on my bike and head to DTU or walk over to the Core building for a nice morning workout session in the gym. Afternoons are my study hustling time – you’ll probably find me glued to my laptop in the study area or in the DTU library, headphones on and coffee nearby.

Dinner is my favourite part of the day; I love mixing things up and organizing dinners with people from different kitchens like a cultural exchange with a lot of fun. Last but not least, if there are no Basecamp events in the evening like a Karaoke Night or an enjoyable Quiz Night, I am likely to relax in the cinema room with friends and watching a film eating too many popcorns.

Oh, and of course, how could I forget? Every Sunday we go full Italian mode with our traditional lunch: pasta and then tiramisu, to end the week in the best way.

What you need to know

FAQs

What is the contract length?
Basecamp contracts are open, unlimited contracts that run for the duration of your education or unless terminated by either party (a 3-months notice period must be observed).
What documents do I need?
1. A copy of your passport (or local ID card for EU nationals) and
2. A university acceptance letter or copy of the student card if you are already studying.
When can I move in?
We are ready to welcome you on the first day of tenancy every day between 9:00 and 22:00. Additional information and keys will be handed out in the reception.
What do I have to bring?
You need to supply your bedding and towels, cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery. Our team can help you look for the best deals and offer advice on where to find everything you might need. You can buy a bed set through us, contact the managers for more information.
What about noise?
All residents are requested to be respectful of other residents. Noise levels should be kept to a minimum during the hours posted at the property.
What is the process for moving out?
The termination period for all Danish properties is the current month plus 3 months, and termination can only be initiated after the contract start date. Please submit your termination request online through your Basecamp profile under the “Termination” section. Please note that you will need to move out 14 days before the end of your tenancy. This period is paid for by you and will be used to prepare the room for the next tenant. Rental payment is required until the end of tenancy and is not considered to be deducted from the deposit.

Our favourite things to do in Copenhagen

Copenhagen Zoo

Copenhagen Zoo is without a doubt one of the most popular tourist attractions in the city, and for good reason. The 4,000 inhabitants of the enclosures are just a short drive or bus journey away from our Dormitory.

SMK – National Gallery Of Denmark

SMK is the largest art museum in Denmark, and within its walls are some impressive displays from local and global artists alike. Go take a look to explore paintings, sculptures and graphic art comprising a 26,000 -strong collection.

Bakken

A day out at the world’s oldest amusement park should be on everyone’s list when in Copenhagen. Located within Par Force Hunting Landscape of Jægersborg Deer Park, explore the preserved history and an 82 year old wooden roller coaster.

Tivoli Gardens

Little known fact – Tivoli amusement park was what inspired Walt Disney World. A must-see whilst in Copenhagen, and just about a 20 minute walk from our student dormitory.

Amalienborg Palace

Home to the Danish royal family, these four identical classical palace facades were initially intended for noble families, but was bought by the royal family when Christiansborg palace burned down in 1794.
