Neon Side Gallery.

This glowing neon alley is one of Wroclaw’s best hidden gems. The walls of a courtyard are covered in old neon signs that have been collected from all over Poland, while local street artists have filled the blank spaces in between with stunning graffiti. A great spot for anyone interested in street photography.

Wrocław Dwarves.

In the 1980s, the Orange Alternative protest group voiced their opposition to the communist regime in whimsical ways and the first Wrocław dwarf was a mascot to that approach. Today there are more than 250 dwarves hiding in plain sight around the city. For those looking for these little metal men, maps and GPS coordinates are available at tourist shops. Happy hunting.

Train to Heaven.

A 90-ton, gravity defying train shoots for the stars in this striking piece of public artwork. Standing at nearly 70 feet tall, this incredible artwork began its existence in 1944 as a fully functional Ty2 steam locomotive. You’ll find it on the main route into the city from the airport.

Hydropolis.

Built in 1893, this underground cistern was used as a clean water store until as recently as 2011. Four years later the site was converted into an interactive educational shrine to water, honouring its fundamental role in our biological and cultural lives, as well as in our environment, planet, and the wider universe.

Rynek.

The social and cultural centre of Wrocław: a place of happenings, concerts and performance art, lined with terraced cafes and restaurants. Originally constructed in the 13th century, it was rebuilt in the 1950s following World War II. As such, much of what you see today is a façade, quite literally. The frontages are accurate but what lies behind received an understandable upgrade.
