What are the symptoms of the coronavirus?

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the most common symptoms of COVID-19 are fever, tiredness, and dry cough. Some patients may have aches and pains, nasal congestion, runny nose, sore throat or diarrhea. These symptoms are usually mild and begin gradually. Some people become infected but don’t develop any symptoms and don’t feel unwell. Most people (about 80%) recover from the disease without needing special treatment. Around 1 out of every 6 people who gets COVID-19 becomes seriously ill and develops difficulty breathing. Older people, and those with underlying medical problems like high blood pressure, heart problems or diabetes, are more likely to develop serious illness. About 2% of people with the disease have died. People with fever, cough and difficulty breathing should seek medical attention.

What can I do to protect myself from coronavirus?

To better protect yourself, here are some tips from the World Health Organization:

  •  Frequently wash you hands with an alcohol-based hand rub or warm water and soap
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a flexed elbow or tissue when sneezing or coughing
  • Avoid close contact with anyone who has a fever or cough
  • Seek early medical help if you have a fever, cough and difficulty breathing, and share their travel history with healthcare providers
  • Avoid direct, unprotected contact with live animals and surfaces in contact with animals when visiting live markets in affected areas
  • Avoid eating raw or undercooked animal products and exercise care when handling raw meat, mil

If I have been in or traveled to an affected country, can I still come to BaseCamp?

Yes, if you are permitted to travel, you are welcome to make your way to BaseCamp. If you have been in or traveled to an affected country in the last 14 days, we recommend to stay indoors and avoid contact with other people (as you would with other flu viruses).

If you develop a fever, difficulty breathing or a cough, please follow the advice above and do not leave your home until you have received medical advice.

We can also connect you to local medical resources once you arrive.

What do I do if myself or my roommate are affected?

If you are feeling ill, please contact the local health authorities.  If you do not know who to contact your BaseManager will be able to you.

Will you move a resident who has been diagnosed with COVID-19?

We will work with local health officials and the impacted resident to follow the appropriate guidelines.

What precautionary measures is BaseCamp taking in regard to the coronavirus?

BaseCamp is staying up to date on public health advisories and adjusting our local operations and procedures to comply with local authority guidelines and laws.  This means that some common areas are closed and services are limited in order to protect the health and safety of our residents. We encourage everyone in BaseCamp to practice social distancing, frequently wash hands, and disinfect high touch surfaces as possible.

I have experienced bullying or discrimination related to coronavirus, or I’m worried about others in affected areas, who can I talk to?

At BaseCamp we do not tolerate bullying or discrimination. Please contact your local BaseManager to let them know. If you have experienced bullying or discrimination at your university, please contact them

I currently have a reservation at BaseCamp, but I am unable to leave an affected country, what do I do?

Please contact your local BaseManager team and we will work to make a plan with you. You can also email live@basecampstudent.com.

My upcoming program is cancelled, how does this impact my tenancy agreement with BaseCamp Student?

Please check the terms & conditions in your tenancy agreement for the individual property. The tenancy agreement remains in effect. Our tenancy agreements are not impacted by the status of your program. You may still join us at Basecamp and we will honor your signed agreement.

I had to leave suddenly, how does this impact my tenancy agreement?

First of all, we are sad to hear that you have left our community. We know that plans changed suddenly, and things shifted quickly across the world. If you chose to vacate your space, our regular termination policies still apply. Please check your agreement or with your BaseManager for exact termination terms. We are not able to allow early termination outside of the prescribed terms at this time.

BaseCamp remains open and we do our utmost to provide great services to our community and make them feel safe. The COVID19 situation gives us all uncertainty, however universities have only suspended their classes for a short period of time and are eager to open their campuses as soon as possible. Your tenancy agreement is not impacted by this occasion.

How does COVID-19 impact my monthly rental payment?

As we are open, your rental payment is still due.

I need to stay longer at BaseCamp, what should I do?

Please reach out to our property managers. We are eager to help you.

What is BaseCamp Student’s cancellation policy?

BaseCamp follows legal rent regulations, hence the terms & conditions stipulated in your agreement are legally binding. We are afraid, that we can´t facilitate earlier cancellations.

I was planning to come to BaseCamp but have been impacted by travel restrictions. What do I do?

BaseCamp is open whether universities are in session or not. If you have an agreement with us, rest assured that we are keeping your place. In case you would like to terminate your agreement earlier, our terms & condition are legally binding. Please contact BaseManager of your location or email live@basecampstudent.com with questions.

Since my plans have changed, is there anything BaseCamp advises me to do ?

We generally advise you to consult your personal insurance supplier or travel insurance.

We’ll need a few details to get started. First create a personal profile, then choose your payment type. Don’t worry – you’re not committing to anything yet.

Read the tenancy agreement

Read through the tenancy agreement carefully and make sure all your details are correct. Once you’re happy, hit ‘complete the booking’.

Pay

We’ve made paying for your BaseCamp room super simple. If you’ve chosen to pay via bank transfer, check your email inbox for next steps. For all other forms of online payment, you’ll be redirected to a payment area.

Completing the booking

There’s just a bit of paperwork between you and your basecamp. Here’s what you’ll need to print and send back to us or bring with you when you check in.

The three forms attached to your confirmation email. Print them, fill them, sign them, scan them and send them back to us.

Tenancy Agreement. Sign the agreement (we only need your signature on one page).

Requested documents. Photocopy all the documents we requested. And remember to bring them all when you arrive at your new home. See you there!

Booking

Who can live at BaseCamp?

Any full-time student, who is 18 or older and has been accepted at a Danish education institute can apply to live at BaseCamp.

How can I book a room?

It’s really easy! Just follow the steps described in Booking.

How can I pay?

BaseCamp accepts any kind of payment through its online platform. BaseCamp prefers direct debit payments, but also accepts credit cards / debit cards and bank transfers. There might occur a transfer fee for bank transfers and various types of credit card payments taken.

What documents do I need?

A copy of your passport (or local ID card for EU-nationals) and a university acceptance letter or copy of the student card if you are already studying.

What is a guarantor?

A guarantor is a person who will be held responsible in case the tenant is not able to pay what is stipulated in the terms and conditions of the tenancy agreement.

How soon after the leasing process will I get information about the check in?

Once your signed tenancy agreement and deposit payment are received, the administration team of BaseCamp will contact you within 3 working days. Your actual arrival will be planned in order to ensure a smooth start at BaseCamp.

Can I choose my room in the building?

We will gladly note such requests on any reservation. We can confirm room category and rates, but specific room numbers will only be given upon your arrival, subject to availability.

Is it possible to visit the room and have a tour of the premises before signing the contract?

Yes. The administration team will be more than pleased to show you around BaseCamp prior to your signing. Please note that you need to have a confirmed appointment first.

What is the contract length?

BaseCamp contracts are open, unlimited contracts that run for the duration of your education or unless terminated by either party (a 3-months’ notice period must be observed). To enhance the social community of BaseCamp, full-year students are given priority.

What is the cancellation policy?

The termination period varies from country to country. Please get in touch with us to get specific information. The termination period will also be stipulated in your tenancy agreement. Please note that you will need to move out 14 days prior to the end of your tenancy. This period is paid by you and will be used to prepare the room for the next tenant. Rental payment is required until the end of tenancy and is not considered to be deducted from the deposit.

Is there a deposit fee? Do I get this back upon moving out?

When finalizing your reservation, we require a deposit of 3 months in addition to full payment for the first month. Your deposit will be held until the end of your tenancy. If the room is delivered in the same condition you received it, we will refund the full deposit. The deposit will be refunded, if applicable, within 6 weeks from officially tenancy end.

What is included in the room rate?

Almost everything. Check the amenities list under each BaseCamp.

What is not included?

Utilities vary from BaseCamp to BaseCamp. If you have any questions or doubts, please feel free to contact us and we will be happy to answer your questions.

Living

I am going on a vacation/back home for a while. Can I sublet my apartment?

Subletting is generally not allowed. An exception is made to students who leave for a semester on an exchange program and wish to return to their room once this period is over. Contact us for further details.

Can I have guests over?

You are welcome. Be aware that you are responsible for your guests at BaseCamp Copenhagen.

What about noise?

All BaseCampers are requested to be respectful of other BaseCampers. Noise levels should be kept to a minimum during the hours posted at BaseCamp Copenhagen.

Is there a cleaning/maid service?

You are responsible for cleaning your own apartment and for keeping the common areas nice and clean. However, you can get in touch with our BaseCamp team, and we will certainly help you on finding the perfect solution for your needs.

Can I smoke?

No, smoking is strictly prohibited anywhere inside the building. Smoking is only allowed in the outside areas.

I am new to the city and living away from home. What can I expect?

We are a tight knit community and we will take care of you, so you have no reason to be nervous about moving to a new place. We will be more than happy to assist you with anything you may need – in our staff, the BaseBuddies and the other BaseCampers you will find many friends willing to help you.

What do I do if I have any problems at BaseCamp?

During office hours you can go to the reception desk or call. If the office is closed, then please contact one of our BaseBuddies or call our emergency number.

What do I have to bring?

You need to supply your own bedding and towels, cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery. Our team can help you look for the best deals and offer advice on where to find everything you might need.

When can I move in to BaseCamp?

We are ready to welcome you on the first day of tenancy during our office hours. Additional information and keys will be handed out by the reception.

Can I bring my own furniture?

No. The apartments are fully-furnished with beautiful and functional designer furniture, and come with all you need to live comfortably. In order to keep the rooms in their original condition we do not allow the moving in of personal furniture.

Is it possible to swap or simply move to another apartment after moving in?

This may be possible, subject to availability.

Moving out

Is there a penalty for moving out before the end of the contract?

You will be able to move out before the end of your contract. However, please note that the termination period is 3 months and you will therefore be held responsible for full payment of rent and utilities until then. The deposit will be returned after your tenancy has ended and the rental payments and utility bills or any damages for which you are responsible have been fully paid.

What is the process for moving out?

If you wish to terminate your tenancy we kindly ask you to send us your termination notice by e-mail. Once we have received your termination notice, we will confirm the end date of your tenancy. You are required to cover the payment of your rent as well as utilities until the end of your tenancy. Shortly before moving out, you are required to contact one of our BaseManagers to make an appointment for a apartment inspection. This inspection will be held together with you to check the condition of the apartment and its furniture. Both parties will sign a checkout form. Depending on the checkout form, the next steps may include repairs and refurbishment, or the return of the deposit at the end of the tenancy agreement.

What is the cancellation policy?

The termination period varies from country to country. Generally, the termination period may vary between 7, up to 14 days before departure date. However, in Germany you are required to leave your room the last day of your stay at BaseCamp, which you can find it stated on your tenancy agreement. Please get in touch with us to get specific information.

Is there a deposit fee? Do I get this back upon moving out?

When finalizing your reservation we require a deposit of 1 month (Leipzig) / 3 months (Potsdam) in addition to full payment for the first month. Your deposit will be held until the end of your tenancy. If the room is delivered in the same condition you received it, we will refund the full deposit. The deposit will be refunded, if applicable, within 6 weeks from officially tenancy end.

Is there a penalty for moving out before the end of the contract?

The lease ends on the end date you booked. Ordinary termination of the agreement prior to the end of the agreed contract term is excluded. The right to extraordinary termination within the statutory time limits shall remain unaffected by the provisions of this section.  Until the end date of the contract you will be held responsible for full payment of rent and utilities. The deposit will be returned after your tenancy has ended and the rental payments and utility bills or any damages for which you are responsible have been fully paid.

Yes. Our team member will be more than pleased to show you around BaseCamp prior to your booking. Please note that you need to have a confirmed appointment first.

What is the contract length?

Various options are available for you to choose from, but the minimum stay offered at BaseCamp is a semester. To enhance the social community of BaseCamp, full-year students are given priority.

What is the cancellation policy?

The tenancy agreement is valid for the duration of the agreed period and earlier termination is not possible.

Please note that you may be asked to move out 3 to 7 days prior to the end of your tenancy. This period is covered by your tenancy and will be used to prepare the room for the next tenant. Rental payment is required until the end of tenancy and is not considered to be deducted from the deposit.

Is there a deposit fee? Do I get this back upon moving out?

When finalizing your reservation we require a deposit of 1 month, registration fee of 250 PLN and a full payment for the first month. Your deposit will be held until the end of your tenancy. If the room is delivered in the same condition you received it, we will refund the full deposit. The deposit will be refunded, if applicable, within 4 weeks from officially tenancy end.

What is included in the room rate?

The rent, gym and fast Wi – Fi connection are all included in the price. Utilities are paid separately on a monthly basis (a fee of 200 PLN charged per person covers water, electricity, heating and garbage disposal and collection costs).
